Moscato giallo (Golden Muscat) is a symbol of the area of Colli Euganei. The vine has been grown here since the middle Ages. Muscat became dramatically diffused under the ruling of the Republic of Venice. It was incredibly popular because of its distinctive marks: Muscat is a fine full wine, because of the volcanic soil where the vines are grown. This longstanding vineyard, an authentic symbol of the area of Colli Euganei provides us with a fantastic opportunity to remember Petrarch, the great Italian poet, who lived and died here. 7 and its multiples were recurring figures in Petrarch’s restless life. Hence this wine is a tribute to him and his thinking.
Once he left Arezzo, a city in western Italy, Petrarch, who was a teenager, experienced 7 years of tranquility and joy. Then he studied in Bologna for 14 years, where he conducted a society life. He met Laura, the woman of his life, on the 6th of April 1327. He deeply, desperately loved her for 21 years, till when she died on 6th April 1348.
Wine making process
The harvest is split into two parts. During the first part the grapes that are not completely ripe are harvested to obtain the typical scents of Muscat wine. After 20 – 30 days, the remaining grapes, which have a higher content of sugar, are harvested.
Grapes are kept in a cool place at a temperature of 7-8° C in the winery. They are subsequently softly pressed by means of a pneumatic press and the must is left in a steel vessel for 12 hours to become clear at a monitored temperature.
After decanting, it partially ferments at a monitored temperature of 18-20° C until its alcoholic content is about 10.5-11°. The aim is producing a light sweet wine. When cool, the wine is filtered, shortly kept in a vessel and then immediately bottled.
